All three were game changers and have been endlessly influential since. The current crop of sci-fi films has included some really excellent films, but none which have re-drawn the boundaries or even added anything new.

Mike: I sometimes think sci-fi gets a hard press because everyone thinks it's about Aliens and spaceships. The films i've mentioned in this comment aren't about those things at all (not even Alien), and you could probably explore the genre without ever leaving Earth.

Both of you: if you haven't seen it, watch Dark City. Another splendid slice of noirish sci-fi in the mould of Blade Runner and the Matrix.

WardThe Authorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17024329972980288570noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4576872628618368699.post-97105004733608492012-10-22T07:48:42.413+01:002012-10-22T07:48:42.413+01:00Shamefully, I have never seen Blade Runner, and ge...Shamefully, I have never seen Blade Runner, and generally speaking Sci-Fi makes me want to blow chunks, having said that, it is always a pleasure to watch a picture that invented the mould, and from your review this appears to be the case. Thus, in that spirit of exploration, I will download and view post- haste.

I must watch more films. Bladerunner, like Alien, is one of those films that if you saw them for the first time today you would possibly think were generic sci-fi by numbers, riddled with cliche, due to how much they are referenced by contemporary cinema. It's easy to forget how truly groundbreaking these two films were, they still both blow my tiny little mind. I just hope Ridleys new Bladerunner project isn't as much of a let down as Prometheus.Chris Morannoreply@blogger.com
